It’s 23 days to the blessed month of Ramadan.
As you prepare for the blessed month of Ramadan, it is important to intentionally free and cleanse your mind. Many of us begin making plans to increase the length of our prayers, spend most nights seeking forgiveness, reciting the Qur’an, and engaging in acts of charity, and that is beautiful, mā shā’ Allāh.
However, one important area that is often overlooked is our emotional baggage. At times, we become so focused on acts of worship and charity that we neglect our emotional struggles. We may think, as long as we pray, fast, recite the Qur’an, give ṣadaqah, and observe tahajjud, that is enough.
But this is not entirely true. While these acts of worship can help uplift the heart, they do not automatically free a person from jealousy, grudges, unresolved sadness, or harmful habits like backbiting. When emotional issues are left unaddressed, they can lead to inner turmoil, causing our focus and attention to shift from worship to personal struggles preventing us from being fully present and sincere in our acts of devotion.
“Indeed, there is a piece of flesh in the body; if it is sound, the whole body is sound, and if it is corrupted, the whole body is corrupted. Indeed, it is the heart.”

The Prophet ﷺ also said:
“Do you know what backbiting is?”
He said, “It is mentioning about your brother something he dislikes.”

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Do not hate one another, do not envy one another, do not turn away from one another, but be servants of Allah as brothers.”
