More than 350 residents of Kakuri community in Kaduna South Local Government Area, Kaduna State, have benefited from a free medical outreach organized by Dankofa Foundation in partnership with Sakinah Medical Outreach.
The outreach, held at the District Head’s Office in Kakuri last Saturday, brought together medical personnel, community leaders and volunteers to provide essential healthcare services to vulnerable members of the community.
The programme featured medical consultations, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, malaria and tuberculosis tests, health education and the distribution of free drugs. The Kaduna State Ministry of Health also supported the exercise with its mobile testing laboratory truck.
Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of Sakinah Medical Outreach, Prof. Aisha Abubakar, said the organization had, over the past 17 years, supported numerous beneficiaries across the country through financial assistance, medical treatment and other healthcare interventions.
She noted that the organization had also facilitated overseas medical treatment for beneficiaries whose conditions required specialized care that was unavailable locally.
According to her, the interventions were aimed at reaching people who might otherwise struggle to afford essential medical services.
Prof. Aisha described the partnership with Dankofa Foundation as part of Sakinah Medical Outreach’s broader commitment to serving underserved communities.
She stressed the importance of working with like-minded organizations to expand the reach and impact of humanitarian healthcare programmes.
She said Sakinah Medical Outreach would continue to support partnerships that align with its humanitarian objectives and contribute to improving access to healthcare for vulnerable populations.
“We are pleased to partner with Dankofa Foundation to continue this good work of reaching and supporting underserved communities. We will continue to partner with like-minded organizations in the service of humanity,” she said.
The Founder of Dankofa Foundation, Abdullahi Dankofa, who was represented by the foundation’s Programme Lead, Oliver Christopher, said the foundation had intensified its healthcare interventions since 2023 through medical outreaches, health education and hospital visits.
He said healthcare remained a major area of intervention for the foundation because of its importance to the well-being of vulnerable people.
He added that the foundation’s programmes were designed not only to provide immediate medical assistance but also to promote preventive healthcare and health awareness within communities.
Abdullahi said Sakinah Medical Outreach contributed significantly to the programme by providing financial support, medical personnel and sustained assistance.
He also commended the beneficiaries for their turnout and urged them to take the advice provided by medical personnel seriously, particularly by seeking further medical attention whenever necessary.
The District Head of Kakuri Community and Ciroman Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Tijjani, commended both organizations for bringing free healthcare services directly to members of the community.
He described the initiative as a significant contribution to the well-being of residents, particularly vulnerable people who may face difficulties accessing healthcare.
The District Head praised the medical team and volunteers for contributing their time and expertise to the programme, saying their efforts went beyond providing medical treatment to giving hope and improving the quality of life of beneficiaries.
Alhaji Shehu encouraged residents who benefited from the outreach to follow the medical advice provided and seek appropriate medical attention whenever necessary.
He also prayed for continued blessings and success for the foundations, medical team, volunteers and others who contributed to the success of the programme.
Beneficiaries of the outreach appreciated both organizations for providing free medical services and medication to them.
They also described the initiative as a valuable intervention for residents who may find it difficult to afford healthcare.
Amina Yusuf, a beneficiary, thanked both organizations for bringing healthcare services closer to the community and urged them to sustain the initiative.
Musa Aliu, another beneficiary, also expressed appreciation to the organizations, saying the medical checks, consultation and free drugs would help residents pay greater attention to their health.
