Join us in commemorating World Immunization Week, a global initiative dedicated to highlighting the importance of immunization in safeguarding health and promoting well-being. From April 24th to April 30th, we celebrate the remarkable progress achieved through vaccination efforts worldwide.
Throughout history, vaccines have played a pivotal role in preventing infectious diseases and saving millions of lives. According to WHO, A major landmark study to be published by The Lancet reveals that global immunization efforts have saved an estimated 154 million lives—or the equivalent of 6 lives every minute of every year—over the past 50 years. The vast majority of lives saved—101 million—were those of infants.
This study, led by the World Health Organization (WHO), has shown that immunization is the single greatest contribution of any health intervention to ensuring babies not only see their first birthdays but continue leading healthy lives into adulthood.
This week, we honor the tireless work of healthcare professionals, policymakers, and advocates who have contributed to the success of immunization programs.
As we reflect on 50 years of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), let us recommit ourselves to ensuring equitable access to vaccines for all. Together, we can protect communities, strengthen health systems, and build a healthier future for generations to come.
Join the conversation and spread awareness about the life-saving benefits of immunization. Together, we can make a difference and empower individuals and communities to thrive.
