Rain, Rain Go Away, Come And Rain Another Day…

These past few days the country has experienced an enormous downpour of water from the sky. And this has brought back the memories of the nursery rhymes, titled: Rain, Rain.

According to media reports, there has been widespread structural damage across multiple locations in Nigeria. At least 31 people have reportedly been killed, including 15 in Niger State. Media sources indicate that flooding has been reported in at least five states across Nigeria. Flooding has been reported in Kano, Jigawa, Plateau, Delta, and Kogi. Over 45,000 people have been evacuated due to flooding along the Niger River in Kogi. And over 200 households displaced in Plateau (This Day, 2018).

We implore the Government and Non-Governmental Bodies alike to come to the aid of the displaced people and those who have either lost lives and properties. And we encourage adhering to strict good living environmental conditions, regular sanitation; desist from dumping of refuses in waterways and drainage, and construction of building flood-prone areas.

Rainfall is a mercy, and when it’s too much, it becomes disastrous.
