WHO Declares Coronavirus Outbreak a Global Health Emergency

The World Health Organization on Thursday declared the outbreak of a novel coronavirus a global health emergency, an acknowledgment of the risk the virus poses to countries beyond its origin in China and of the need for a more coordinated international response to the outbreak.

This declaration was made because of the risk the virus poses to countries outside China, and the declaration was made by the WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, following a meeting of the WHO’s emergency committee.

Thousands of new cases in China and clear human-to-human transmission in several other countries have been observed and confirmed. Where nearly 99 percent of the 7,874 diagnoses (global cases) have been detected in China, and other cases have been diagnosed in 18 other countries; USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Malaysia, Italy, Finland, UAE, India, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Thailand, Australia, Vietnam, South Korea, Japan, Ivory Coast, and Cambodia.

It is very important for us to be vigilant, take all prescribed precautions, take care of ourselves and look out for one another. May Allah grant us good health, safety and protection.
